Read Irene's Story

Irene Zuniga grew up in East Bakersfield. Irene comes from a family of farm workers who grew corn, papaya, tomatoes, watermelon and guayabas in Michoacán, Mexico. Her parents (Rodolfo and Hilda Zuniga) migrated from Michoacán to the United States in the 80s in search for a better life. Irene is the oldest of three girls. She is a Human Resource Generalist at Sunview Vineyards of California, Inc., a family owned and family operated farming company in the Central Valley.
